At 8:18 local time on November 25, 2024, with the sound of an explosion, the diversion tunnel of CHMC Cambodia Upper TatayHydropower Station was fully completed 35 days ahead of schedule, marking the realization of another major milestone node of the project in 2024 ahead of schedule, and laying a solid foundation for the follow-up project.
The design length of the diversion tunnel of Upper Tatay Hydropower Station is 8825.07 meters, and there are four construction branch tunnels to carry out excavation work simultaneously. Since entering the main cave excavation operation on April 30, 2023, in the face of extremely complex geological conditions, Cambodia Upper Tatay Hydropower Co., LTD., a subsidiary of CHMC, has strengthened organization, efficient management, actively coordinated the construction units, and fully promoted the construction progress, especially in the construction between the 2# and 3# hole sections of the key line (3911 meters). In the face of the challenge of digging 3658.4 meters of Class IV surrounding rock cave, in order to ensure the safe and smooth completion of the tunnel section, Upper Tatay Hydropower has organized the personnel of the participating parties for many times, based on the actual situation on the site, held a large and small coordination meeting 118 times, formulated practical implementation plans, and dynamically adjusted the blasting parameters according to the surrounding rock conditions; Fully mobilize the enthusiasm of employees in production, strictly control the fine management, dynamic coordination, optimize the construction plan, pay close attention to the process connection, aim at the construction quality, prevent security risks, through daily, on-site discussion, optimization of the process, detail control and other ways, after 3 months of steady progress, month by month, from the initial monthly 49 meters, 64 meters of slow progress, Until we reach 100 per month. Following the Class III surrounding rock with a monthly footage of 253.3 meters, the class IV surrounding rock achieved a monthly footage of 151.4 meters, and maintained a single working face of 120 meters or more for 16 consecutive months, after 576 days and nights of hard work, and finally successfully achieved the precise penetration of the tunnel 35 days in advance.
Since the start of the project on December 1, 2022, the Upper Tatay Hydropower Station has successfully achieved several milestones such as the interception of the Kep dam, the filling of the dam to the flood control elevation, and the completion of the water transfer tunnel 132 days ahead of schedule. The advance penetration of the diversion tunnel lays a solid foundation for the subsequent concrete transfer construction and the completion of the whole project period as planned. Upper Tatay Hydropower will continue to make unremitting efforts to promote the realization of each node of the project on schedule, and make new and greater contributions to the high-quality construction of the "Belt and Road" for CHMC.
