Recently, the Cambodia Branch of China National Heavy Machinery Corporation (CHMC) has officially received the Letter of Acceptance from Electricité du Cambodge (EDC) for a grid-forming energy storage project at a substation in Takeo Province. This successful bid marks a significant breakthrough for the company in the field of new energy storage.

As a key project for EDC, this 100MW/200MWh installation will utilize advanced grid-forming technology. Upon completion, it is expected to substantially enhance the frequency and voltage regulation capabilities of the local power grid. The project encompasses the entire supply chain, including the design of the battery energy storage system, equipment procurement, installation and construction, system commissioning, and subsequent operation and maintenance services.

To date, Cambodia has no large-scale energy storage system in operation. The successful implementation and commissioning of this project will therefore represent a milestone in Cambodia’s energy development history, holding strategic importance for enhancing the stability of the regional grid and ensuring the security of power supply.

CHMC will pool its superior resources to build this project into a benchmark for Cambodia’s energy storage sector, thereby making new contributions to deepening China-Cambodia energy cooperation.
