On March 31, the diversion tunnel gate was successfully lowered upon command at the site of the Upper Tatay Hydropower Station, invested and constructed by CHMC, on the upper reaches of the Tatay River, formally initiating reservoir impoundment of the project. This represents another major milestone following the completion of the dam face slab concrete pouring, signifying the project’s transition from the construction phase into the stage of reservoir impoundment and preparation for commercial operation.
The Upper Tatay Hydropower Station is scheduled to commence commercial operation within the year 2026. Once operational, it is expected to provide an annual electricity supply of 530 million kWh to the local area, contributing to deepening China-Cambodia energy cooperation and promoting regional economic and social development.
