CHMC and EDC Signed the Cambodia 500kV Electricity Transmission and Transformation Project Contract

On January 11, 2018, during his official visit in Cambodia, Chinese Premier Mr. Li Keqiang, together with Cambodian Prime Minister Mr. Hun Sen, witnessed the contract signature of the Cambodia 500kV Main Grid and Regional Grid Electricity Transmission and Transformation EPC Project, in the Peace Palace, Phnom Penh. CHMC Chairman Mr. Lu Wenjun, and Managing Director of Electricité Du Cambodge (EDC), H.E. Keo Rottanak, respectively on behalf of each Party, signed the Contract.

The Cambodia 500kV Electricity Transmission and Transformation Project Contract was concluded in accordance with the Cambodian Power Long-term Development Plan, to meet the requirement of Cambodian economy increasing for electricity transmission and transformation lines.  The Project includes two transmission and transformation lines ( one line is from Phnom Penh west to Phnom Penh east; the other line is from the border of Cambodia and Laos, to Cambodia Stung Treng province.), as well as the extension construction of the terminal substation. It is the first 500kV electricity transmission and transformation line scheduled to be constructed in Cambodia, which symbolizes that Cambodian state gird is to formally upgrade to the maximum voltage in the Southeast Asia, and become a solid foundation for the power interflow among the neighboring countries, such as Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam, possessing an very important strategy significance to the Cambodian power development.


For several years, CHMC and EDC have maintained a fine cooperation ship, and this 500kV Project Contract is the tenth power transmission and transformation project contract signed between CHMC and EDC. Currently, the power transmission and transformation projects contracted and constructed by CHMC, have covered all provinces in Cambodia, and the total amount has surpassed one billion UDS. They continuously supply electricity power to the area along the lines, enhancing the living quality of the local people, providing the power supply to the processing in agricultural, sideline fields, and industry production.


Year 2018 is the 60th anniversary of Sino-Cambodian diplomatic relations. CHMC, continuously based on the One Belt One Road Strategy, would further and strengthen the cooperation, speed up the grid construction, to supply a steady and low-cost power to more Cambodian families, improve the living of the local people, serve the local people, make new and more contribution to the prosperous development of Cambodia, the happy life of Cambodian people, the traditional friendship between China and Cambodia.
